Over the years I’ve noticed that my palate changes with the seasons. In the summer months I find myself craving lighter wines over crisp whites or reds- hello Rose! This is where rose has carved its niche in a very crowded wine world, with its popularity resulting in a market overloaded by products trying to cash in on the trend. Even Provence France, the epicenter of dry rose, has become inconsistent. It’s not all bad, there are still many regions making world class dry rose. Pockets in California and the Pacific Northwest offer some very good producers. I recently had the opportunity to review a few Roses made from Pinot Noir.
